Windows 7 and Embird Iconizer – Viewing Icons Solution
There are two versions of Windows 7: 32 bit and 64 bit. If you are not sure which version you have, right click on the computer icon on your desktop > properties. Check the system type in the general tab to see which version you have.
If you have the 32-bit version, Iconizer will show icons for designs if it is enabled. Choose “medium Icons”, “large icons”, “extra large icons” or “tiles” for viewing files in Windows Explorer with this version. Windows will not display icons if you choose the “small icons”, “list” or “details” settings.
Iconizer will not show icons for the 64-bit edition nor will the Ultimate Box+ menu function, but there is a temporary workaround until this issue is resolved.
Embird 2008/2010 is a 32-bit application. The 64-bit edition of Windows 7 does not contain two versions of Windows Explorer (as it was in 64-bit edition of Windows Vista), but only the64-bit version of Windows Explorer, which is where the problem lies with viewing designs using Iconizer.
There are several 32-bit applications running within the Windows 7 64-bit environment that will all you to view your icons. Before you begin, make sure iconizer is set to view both images and embroidery files and then make sure the iconizer settings have been checked.
- On the top toolbar click on right panel; make sure there are check marks beside “preview and “preview files”.
- Open Embird Manager > Options > Iconizer settings. Click on select all for both the embroidery files and image files in the pop-up box.
Iconizer is now enabled.
To view icons in a browser window, open any 32-bit application. Not all 32-bit programs will work, but a list of those that do work with this method will follow. This example uses Microsoft Office 2007.
- Open Word 2007.
- File > open or with a new document open, file> save as. Choose “all file types” and then ok.
- Open Windows Explorer and browse to a design folder. The icons should now show as graphics of the design or image and not a graphic of the program. The right click option will also show the graphic as an image of the design or graphic.
Not all programs will allow you to view your icons as graphics, but the following programs do work:
· Microsoft Office 2007
· Microsoft Works Word Processor
· Windows Media Player
· Adobe Reader
· Some of the Paint Shop Pro programs, including versions 7 and 9.
A second option is to use Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode. You must test your computer first, as Windows Virtual PC will not run on every computer, as it only works with certain microprocessors. To test the compatibility of your PC with Windows PC and Virtual PC at this Microsoft page. If your computer is compatible, then go to the download page for Windows Virtual PC to install it on your Windows 7 computer.
